Our mission statement is, “Southern Pines Brewing Company is a craft brewery that produces the highest quality beer for our community in order to enhance the enjoyments of everyday life.” Beer is communal by nature, and it is this social aspect of brewing that draws us to this amazing industry. Southern Pines Brewing Company takes great pride in the culture of our organization, and we strive to uphold our guiding principles in every decision that we make. Beyond the production batches of beer that Southern Pines distributes, it is excited to continually brew new, artisanal batches of beer on its small, 2.5 BBL pilot system. Southern Pines currently self-distributes beer in central North Carolina, and is excited to further promote the craft beer industry in its local market. The taproom opened its doors to the public on September 23rd, 2014, and the business was off. Southern Pines brewed the first batch of beer on their 15 BBL Premier Stainless brewhouse on June 23rd of 2014, one year and two days after officially filing the paperwork to become an LLC. ![]() The training was critical for developing the practices used to start the brewery off on the right foot. While living in an RV out of White Lab’s parking lot, they were able to learn about the microbiology and chemistry of brewing from giants in the brewing industry like Chris White and Lyn Kruger. John and Micah took Siebel Institute of Technology’s Concise Course on Brewing Technology, and then travelled out to San Diego to take the Essential Quality Control Course at White Labs. “WHILE LIVING IN AN RV OUT OF WHITE LAB’S PARKING LOT, THEY WERE ABLE TO LEARN ABOUT THE MICROBIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY OF BREWING…” They spent the next year working on their business plan, visiting as many breweries as possible, and increasing their knowledge of how to make beer. The entrepreneurial spark was ignited, and the three began to develop a plan to open a craft brewery of their own. After being reassigned to new jobs, they came up with the idea of starting their own business after hearing an investor talk about his ownership in a local, North Carolina craft brewery. The three had homebrewed some in the past and enjoyed the social atmosphere that homebrewing provided. Army, and all had served on the same Operational Detachment Alpha Team. Micah, John, and Jason were at the mid-point of their military careers as Green Berets in the U.S. Southern Pines Brewing Company first started as an idea in the spring of 2013.
